Ainsdale Beach to Formby Point with friends.

04/02/2018

We are lucky to live close to so many beautiful beaches here in the North West, so when trying to choose our Easter activity with friends the favourite was a day out at the beach with Lily, Henry and a picnic.

After checking the tide times, we decided to meet up around 1130am so we would get the maximum amount of time at the beach together. Both Henry and Lily have spent time with our friends so they were very excited to see them, and even more excited to get onto the beach!

The great thing about Ainsdale beach is that there are the sand dunes to keep the children busy, and there is also the flat beach leading to the sea. Both Lily and Henry were extremely well behaved playing in the sand dunes with the children as we walked adjacent to them along the beach.

Of course, like any good labrador, they both ran for a play in the sea whilst the girls joined them - it's a good job we put them in welllies! We stopped after an hour or so for our picnic and a rest, with Lily and Henry enjoying theirs before playing a game of fetch which primarily involved Lily taking the stick and running far away from Henry! A group of people walked by as Lily ran away with the stick watched as Henry gave chase trying to get it back, then cheered loudly when Henry managed to get the stick away from Lily (she loves him really!)

Once we reached Formby Point, we were all in need of a sit down and a recharge. The dogs both has lots to drink, we filled their travel water bottles again and the children both had an ice lolly from the most expensive ice-cream van that I think ever existed!

We set off back along the beach following the same route that we took on the journey to Formby Point but this time some parts were a little slower and the dogs had finally started to tire themselves out. The children, even though they were adament they were tired, continued to walk parts of the journey up and over the sand dunes with Lily joining them whilst Henry walked with us, tired but still smiling with his tongue hanging out to one side.

Altogether we walked just over 10 miles along the beach, which with two children aged 8 and 12 is pretty good going. We all had a fantastic time, especially Lily and Henry who had a very long sleep when they got home.
